Layout

The Reception provides the first impression for both visitors and staff, of BT Global’s environment. It is therefore important that it expresses the values of Global and has consistent and recognisable qualities across all sites.

Each reception has 3 key elements: Reception desk,Waiting Area and Feature Wall These elements are positioned within an otherwise natural pallet of materials.

The feature wall and the rest of the environment are explained below, the desk and waiting area are defined on the relevant pages.

Feature Wall

A curved feature wall will be a key component of all reception areas. The feature wall colour is very important to the success of this area. It needs to be a bright and welcoming colour and should be placed ideally as a paint finish on one wall within the space preferably near to the reception desk.In areas where there are no appropriate wall spaces the colour can be introduced in wall panels. All other wall space should contain a neutral paint finish.

Design Features

Plasma Screens and Artwork

The plasma screens have a dual purpose, firstly to display company information to visitors and staff and secondly as a media to display artwork.Touch screen information will include details of occupants eg location of a particular group; Global company messages; Travel information; Building facillities information etc.

Digital art should be designed to reflect BT global values artwork will be shown on the screens when company information isn’t needed. In larger reception areas where the screens are not as prominent a secondary, landmark artwork may need to be provided. This should take the form of a craft product e.g. glass sculpture or etched stainless steel. The size should be appropriate to the scale of the space available

Timber screens

The timber screens are a rod/cable based system that can either be attached to the ceiling or be floor standing. The timber screens have openings between to allow vision through. The screens are for partitioning off space within the reception and are not for areas of display

Flooring

The flooring in the reception area should form a neutral background to compliment the feature colours and reception desk.In larger receptions a terrazzo or stone flooring with pale grey and white aggregate would be used. However, in smaller offices this finish may be inappropriate. Acceptable alternatives would be timber strip flooring or carpet
